Making Fake Blood

Fake Blood

As a class we experimented with different recipes for fake blood. This helped us explore different ways of making realstic looking blood with everyday ingredients. This will not only save us money but is fun to create.Ordinary fake blood is usually unedible , so in making our own we can use it in anyway we want.

Recipe 1

-Corn syrup
-Water
-Food coluring

Overall this recipe was a good , thick consistancy, however the colour was too bright and unrealistic. It is also extremely hard to wash off which can cause problems. The taste of this was really sweet but not terrible to put in your mouth.

Recipe 2

-Water
-Red and green food colouring

This was not a good recipe as it was far too watery. This causes problem making it look realistic on skin and being spat out.

Recipe 3

-•Ketchup•Water•Red food coloring•Corn syrup.
-Flour

Although this mixture looked most realistic , it did not taste good in thr slightest, due to the ketchup it also smelt disgusting. To conclude this was the most effective mixture and would be best if used in my film opeing, however will not be used in the mouth.

Audience Profile

Audience Profile

Based on the results from my survey , I now have an idea of who would be most suitable as a target audience. Using the results will be more effective as we have a wider understanding of what an audience wants to see in a horror film. Knowing the target audience will ensure the film opening will be successful as it meets their needs.
15 category symbol
Most relevant data to include:

The age specified was 15-17 year old. This shows that upper teens are our target audience . This is relevant as it will help determine what characters to include  and how it will be presented. This also specifies what age certificate the film will be , as this age range will not be allowed to watch an "18 certified film" , it will have to stay in the  "15 certified " range.
A 15 certified film can include
-strong violence
-some sexual activity, nudity and references
-drug use
-discriminating language or behavior
-brief scenes of sexual violence

However if the scenes are too violent/gory or disturbing the film will have to be certified as an 18.

Teenagers have many different interests that where not specified in the survey , so we will have to think about teenagers interests and thoughts. This will help us to create characters that will relate to them. This means the characteristics will have to share similarities between teenagers.
Our survey reveals that in the opening of a horror film people like mostly to see a murder. This is a good way to open the film as it creates suspense and reveals the genre. We can also incorporate a cliff hanger into the opening to grip and interest the audience.

The setting preferred by the survey are dark/scary woods. The woods is an effective setting as they are filled with shadows and plenty of places to hide Hiding a character behind various places creates tension as the audience will able to see him/her but the character will not.

The survey shows the victim should be traditionally female as women are seen as more vulnerable and targeted most. Female victims also produce a sinister scream which can be ear-piercing for the audience creating tension and fear.

The gender for a killer in this survey was very close in results , this means I could change the traditional male killer to a woman . This could be effective as there are hardly any female killers in horror films.

I surveyed fifteen people aged twelve and over to see what they find most effective in a horror film. These answers will help me to create an effective film opening. These answers will also help define a target audience for my film opening.

Sounds created

How sound is created in films

Sound effects are created to enhance the sound in which the character makes or hears. This is done so the audience can hear specific and important sounds. These are artificially created for various reasons such as footsteps to create tension. These sound effects are made in many different ways and recorded. These are made by using different objects and recording them being hit , bashed etc. to give of a desired effect Examples:

Alien Pod - the sound is made by using dog food. The sloppy , chunky mess makes a sucky sound when poured out. This is used for a alien like  pod being broken out of.

Bats- The sound of bats wings aggressively flaping is made by opening and closing an umbrella rapidly.

Being hit-In may films there includes a lot of violence. The "hit" sound can be made by rolling up a newspaper and hitting it with a stick.

Kung fu hits - Slapping a stick of celery against a counter makes a harsh hitting sound which sounds like being continuously hit .

Horse hooves- Taking to empty coconut halves and rhythmically hitting them together at however fast the horse will be walking//running will sound like it's hooves.

The way in which these sounds are created will help me with my project as it shows the different creative ways of making sound effects.

The devil inside finished

The Devil inside Remake

About:

In Italy, a woman becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms during her mission to discover what happened to her mother, who allegedly murdered three people during her own exorcism.

Why we chose this

I suggested this clip as I had seen the film before and new we only needed two female characters so we didn't need any extra actors or camera crew. This film is a documentary style horror so would be easier to film as it did not need to look too professional. Their is also no need for any extra blood or effects.

Actresses

Charlie (myself) - Maria's daughter

Rachel -             Maria
Georgia-             Camera operator

Original clip-

Script-

Charlie : Maria , I'm your daughter
Rachel: connect the cuts (repeatedly), Do you know how to connect the cuts (reveals arm)
Charlie: Did you do that to yourself?
Rachel:(shows lip and leans in) It's against gods will you know (nods and smiles) , Screams

Things needed-

  • Camera -(teachers video camera)
  • Clamp stand (for camera)
  • Location (empty classroom)
  • Red Pen-(For scars)

Schedule

 - We decided to film at school as the setting look similar to the one in the clip. As all three of us are in the same media class we were aloud to film this during the lesson. It was filmed in a free classroom so there were no distractions and roughly took 30 minutes.

Final film-

Editing-(Joint work)

Using 'Windows Live Movie Maker' we  imported the videos clips of the recreation by clicking on the add videos and images button. We added our video clips from the shared area and put them in order that they were filmed in .

We then decided that the clip of Rachel saying "Connect the cuts" wasn't effective in the beginning because she was smiling before she said the dialogue. We split the clip just before she started to speak so it cut out the majority of the laughing so she looked more serious. We then deleted the section that we did not need.

The same thing then happened for the next clip because before the line she smiled. This didn't look effective because it gave off the impression that the line was supposed to be comical, meaning that we wouldn't get the reaction off of the audience that we wanted. We resolved this problem by splitting the clip.

The next clip then didn't follow the original scene because it started to follow up the arm before it was suppose to. We decided the cut the clip just after I  said my line so that the next clip followed on after and  it looked more effective. We did this the same way by splitting the clip and deleting the section we didn't need.

The next clip had my voice in the background as I did not realise the they started filming ,this made the clip less effective so we decided to mute the volume so the audience wouldn't hear what she was saying. This was done by clicking the volume button and putting it down to mute so that there was no sound in the clip.

For the final clip we split Rachel screaming. We split this because we didn't want the clip to drag on and so decided to split it a few seconds after she started moving backwards and scream and then deleted it.

Evaluation - I believe under the pressured time and limited room to chose form we as a group produced an effective remake. I feel that the camera angles and editing made the clip look similar to the actual devil inside clip.

Definition of Mise-en-scene

Mise-en-scene

Mise-en-scene is the arrangement of scenery and stage properties of a play or movie. This is basically everything the audience can see in a frame. Mise-en-scene an important factor when creating a film as the audience will see everything in the frame , this means attention to detail is crucial as it contributes to the overall product and how the audience perceive it.
